Camping is an important part of Scouting. The family experiences gained as a Cub Scout will help build the familiarity and skills that will lead to independence and leadership skills gained through multi-day wilderness camping as Boy Scouts. This page will offer resources and links that will help you be ready for the camping experiences of Pack 3740.

Campgrounds
Our campouts occur in many locations. Visit the links below for more on our Northeast Georgia Council facilities, including features and directions.

  • Scoutland - Located close to home off of Highway 306 near Gainesville on Lake Lanier, Scoutland provides year round camping and aquatics activities.
  • Camp Rainey Mountain - Located east of Clayton, Georgia, Camp Rainey Mountain provides year round camping and high adventure activities.
  • Camp Rotary - Located on Lake Hartwell, Camp Rotary provides year round "primitive" camping. This 25 acre camp on the lake was built with funds raised by the Rotary Club of Hartwell, Georgia.

What to Bring
Needs vary based on the type of camping, so check with your den leader for details. Two-person tents and cots are available for some events, while you'll need to provide your own tent for others. Most campgrounds for Cub Scouts have shower facilities available.

Equipment
Camping can be done simply or extravagantly. Quality equipmenet can be purchased reasonably at Wal-Mart or Target, or you can get the best at specialty stores like REI or Cumming's own Outdoor World, located on Georgia 400 North on the right just before you reach the outlet mall.

And Remember ...
If you do find yourself shivering through a cold night, there is some comfort in knowing you will earn the Polar Bear Patch if the outside temperature dips below freezing!
